I decided to release a special little post today since I will be speaking at FinCon on a panel. It’s rather exciting and quite an honor. I apologize I didn’t announce it sooner. However, I do have one small request from my readers. If you are a praying person will you pray for me today?
Back in the winter, I collaborated with another blogger, Refined By FIRE, about applying to speak on a panel this year at FinCon. Fairly quickly we came up with the topic of, Overcoming Adversity on the Path Towards Financial Independence as we both have had some serious adversity in our lives.
Also fairly quickly I knew who should moderate this panel, Fred from Money With a Purpose, as he has an awesome series on his site titled, Overcoming Adversity. I was interviewed in his series a year ago and then I interviewed Fred & his wife Cathy on my blog as parents of a son with an Addiction.
The Panel
Next, we built the rest of the panel and here is the finished product:
- Fred Leamnson (Money with a Purpose) is the Moderator
- Bill from Wealth Well Done
- Drew from FIintrovert
- Mr. Refined
We’ve all had different serious adversities to overcome in life and yet here we are on the path towards financial independence. I find that pretty remarkable and worth celebrating. So for what it’s worth we will be sharing our journies and what we’ve learned today live at FinCon.
Overcoming Depression
If you know me and/or have been following me, you know I overcame addiction. However, it’s no surprise that I occasionally struggle with depression. Actually, that is why I didn’t announce this earlier to you lovely folks.
My summer started out in a slump and I was losing the zest for life. Sure, I kept doing all the things which I know are part of my recovery like, praying with others, going to my recovery meetings, working out, and continuing to work.
It just wasn’t enough and so after weeks turned into months, I got professional help. Pride kept me from doing this right away but I’m so glad I acquiesced to the advice & help I needed.
I’ve been able to enjoy the latter half of summer and even find the courage to rebrand. I knew in the spring that I wanted to rebrand but when I got so low with depression, I couldn’t focus on the effort that it would take.
Fortunately, all things only last for a season.
Late Announcement
When I found out our panel submission was approved for FinCon 2019, I was depressed. For that fact, I could not get excited about it and I failed to promote and announce this exciting news. I apologize in the event that anyone wanted to hear me speak had they known.
Anyway, we plan to get an audio of our panel and I’ll do my best to share it on the blog (if I can figure it out, haha!). I’m sure I can and/or someone will help me.
Other News
Additionally, I was nominated for a Plutus Award for my Brain Health Series. This is another big honor and I share that nomination with some other amazing bloggers:
The Plutus Awards are this Friday night at FinCon so may the best man or woman win!
Closing Thoughts
I’m will be publishing a review of FinCon 2019 on Recovering Women Wealth in the near future. In it, I’ll explain about this conference and how you can get involved next year.
Have a great week everyone!
Go in Jesus name!! Praying!!!! Isaiah 61 is what I’m praying for you…
Yes I am in agreement and declare this with you over Deanna!
Thank you, sister!
Boyd, thank you so much for praying Isaiah 61 for me! I am so so grateful for all the prayers. I definitely felt it. While I love to speak and share my testimony, I get nervous every time; however, I had complete peace as I spoke and the Lord took over. Blessings to you.
Congrats on the speaking panel, that’s awesome!
I’ve got a post about my struggles with depression and more but didn’t want to put it out during Fincon. 😬
You’ll do great today and remember, just breathe and be. Be present and in the moment and you’ll be fine.
Lots of prayers for you coming from this way!
Heyyy! Thanks for the comment, congrats, and prayers. It was an honor to be able to speak at FinCon. It went incredibly well and I felt the prayers. I read all of these comments before speaking and they gave me great comfort. Additionally, your advice about being in the moment is right on.
Thanks! I look forward to reading your post and I pray you are overcoming your struggles.
Oh you know I got you covered! I bless you in the name of Jesus with divine peace, wisdom, endurance and joy!
I am incredibly grateful for your support. I’ll be writing a post soon about my experience at FinCon. The prayers were successful!
I’m praying for you Deanna! Remember to smile. It will help you relax.
Friend, your advice was exactly what I needed to read before the panel. When I’d look out at all those faces looking back at me, I would smile and it did help me relax. Your prayers were so helpful. I look forward to catching up soon.
So proud of you Deanna. I want to hear all about your experiences soon. I know that God has used you to speak to the hearts of many this past week.
Andrea, thank you so much. I am eager to plan a trip to visit with you! I’ll be in touch towards the end of October.
