Having a Healthy Relationship with Money

October 31, 2019 By Deanna 4 Comments

I was blessed to be a guest on two different podcasts in the last couple of weeks. When I have the opportunity to do this I really take the time to think about what to talk about in hopes of helping others.

Maintaining a Long-Lasting Healthy Relationship with Money

In my humble opinion there are five main ingredients to having a healthy relationship with money:

  1. Debt-freedom
  2. Value-based spending
  3. Automation
  4. Savings goals
  5. Budgeting

Before I go into these five main ingredients, I want to disclose my initial mindset shift. During my recovery, I changed my mind about money. I saw it as God’s money and that I was entrusted with some of it. When I looked at it that way, I realized I wanted to manage it well. I started tithing in response to this mindset shift. Additionally, this is where the conviction to pay off my debt came in. Furthermore, it drove me to want to learn to be an investor.

$1,000 Scholarship for Students Seeking to Help Those Impacted by Addiction

October 28, 2019 By Deanna Leave a Comment

My friend J from Budgets are Sexy sent me an email about a scholarship opportunity for students seeking to help those impacted by addiction. I am a BIG fan of both of those things:

  1. College scholarships
  2. Helping those impacted by addiction

With a website name, Recovering Women Wealth, it’s no secret I have a personal story of recovery from addiction. Furthermore, part of my life’s work is helping women in recovery and I’m supportive of anyone looking for recovery.

I’ve seen amazing and miraculous stories of recovery like with the son of my good friends, Fred and Cathy. Unfortunately, I’ve also seen (too many times I care to count) the heartbreak that can occur with addiction like the death of the son of my good friends, John and Liz.

Addiction is a scary reality and it seems that we all know someone impacted by it. Education, awareness, and Christ are the things that can break the chains of addiction.

Obviously, I’m passionate about recovery. That being said I’m writing this post to share how one can go about applying for this scholarship. If you know someone who might be interested please pass this along!!

The Mental Wealth of Getting Back to Child-Like Joy

October 21, 2019 By Deanna 1 Comment

This past week I went on a road trip with a colleague/friend. We were reminiscing about our pasts and the transformation in our lives today. We both agreed to share some pictures of ourselves from our past. In light of that, I’ve spent a couple of nights looking through old photo albums and going down memory lane.

With my story of overcoming addiction some of these memories are painful. However, not all. I certainly have plenty of good memories from my past and in particular from my childhood. I came across this picture of myself as a carefree little girl. That picture was taken in my bedroom at a little table I loved to “have tea” at with my stuffed animals. It reminded me of the joyful and vivid imagination I had as a little girl. When I look at this picture, I see pure, innocent, untainted joy.

‘Tis the season for open enrollment for:

  1. Individual insurance
  2. Medicare
  3. Many group health plans

I work for a broker/third party admin in the world of health insurance. While I typically deal with group health insurance, I certainly am familiar with individual insurance and Medicare. That being said, I would love to share some of the knowledge I’ve acquired over the last 8 years in this industry.  This is your article to learn everything you need to know about open enrollment.

About Me

My name is Deanna and I am happy to be on this redemptive path. I got sober from drug addiction/alcoholism in 2010 and returned to a faith in Christ. Additionally, I finished digging my way out of debt in 2017. Today, I’m learning to be a wise steward/investor of my resources while helping other women find their victories too. More about me.
