We Got Engaged During the Year to Forget!!!

January 9, 2021 By Deanna 18 Comments

Okay, so I must give credit where credit is due. My boss had the best line ever when I told him of my engagement in 2020. He said, “I just got the best news of this year to forget!!!”

Yep, 2020 was historical on a macro level and as much as we’d like to forget it and put it behind us, it’s one for the history books and the effects still linger on in 2021. Additionally, for me personally, it’s historical on a much more micro level – I got engaged!!!

We are so excited and I’m thrilled to write a blog post about some good stuff that came out of 2020.

Last week, I wrote part 1 of this post which had to do more with the money side of things. In learning to have mental wealth as well as managing money well, an emergency fund is a solid foundation.

I described how to calculate a monthly emergency amount which enables you to use any number of months as the multiplier. Creating a hedge against any number of life’s emergencies is a way of playing offense rather than defense.

My next statement comes only from personal experience and from years of working with broken women. Until we are able to face our pasts (however painful) and learn to reconcile, heal, forgive the unforgivable, and replace lies with truth, we will not have healthy relationships.

It’s the hard work that no one wants to do. However, as one who has done it, I can say it’s the most worthwhile work I’ve ever done.

I’m in a relationship currently and we are doing it more differently than I’ve ever done. For that reason, I wanted to share what I’ve learned…

In most 12-step recovery programs, there are amends to be made. This can include financial amends. So if you are at the beginning of your recovery program or if you are not in recovery, you may be saying what the heck is a financial amends?

A Financial amends can include many things like debt pay off, returning stolen goods, and living with more fiscal responsibility. This post is to describe in what constitutes a financial amends.

First and foremost here is step 9:

Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

About Me

My name is Deanna and I am happy to be on this redemptive path. I got sober from drug addiction/alcoholism in 2010 and returned to a faith in Christ. Additionally, I finished digging my way out of debt in 2017. Today, I’m learning to be a wise steward/investor of my resources while helping other women find their victories too. More about me.
